Los Angeles’ female-fronted progressive metallers ECHOES OF ETERNITY have debuted a new track entitled “Twilight Fires” on their official MySpace page. The song comes from their upcoming sophomore album, As Shadows Burn, set for North American release on September 22nd.

States guitarist / songwriter Brandon S. Patton about the track: “When we wrote this song, we asked ourselves, ‘What would it sound like if Francine [Boucher, vocalist] was singing for Morbid Angel or Dissection?’ This is what we came up with. It has a definite black metal/death metal feel to it. I don’t think anyone’s ever heard this type of female vocal with blast beats and double bass drumming in a context quite like this. It’s dark, seductive and powerful! The way Francine belts it out on this song blows my fucking mind and every one in the band loves the middle section of the song, where there is a slower ‘gallop-picked’ riff that is mean as fuck.”

The track listing for As Shadows Burn is as follows:

01. Ten Of Swords

02. A Veiled Horizon

03. Memories Of Blood And Gold

04. The Scarlet Embrace

05. Descent Of A Blackened Soul

06. Twilight Fires

07. Buried Beneath A Thousand Dreams

08. Letalis Deus

09. Funeral In The Sky

Progressive rock band Osada Vida returns this autumn with their third full-length album - “Uninvited Dreams”. Their brand new offering is a follow up to the highly acclaimed albums “Three Seats Behind A Triangle” (2007) and “The Body Parts Party” (2008).

Rafal Paluszek (keyboards) says about their work in the studio: “When we started to work on a new album in early February, we were focused on one thing - there would be no compromises. We had no idea what the title would be, how expensive gear we would have to use to record it, or what the front cover should look like. What we all were sure about though was that on our new album a lot of things would happen. When composing, we realized how much the new music is diversified. Therefore, good mixing would be very important and had to be done by professionals. Marcin Chlebowski, with whom we had a pleasure to work for the third time, did a great job as an engineer and a producer of the new album. He managed to strengthen the power of the heaviest parts as well as emphasize the gentleness of more atmospheric moments, giving them more space. Thanks to him the music sounds now very selective. This album has definitely the best sound of all Osada Vida’s releases.”
As it was with their previous releases, Osada Vida manifests a wide variety of influences and styles: symphonic prog-rock, neo-prog, prog metal, alternative rock and metal. “Uninvited Dreams” is yet another concept-album that draws from the tradition of ambitious rock distinctive of Yes, Porcupine Tree and Pain Of Salvation.

“Uninvited Dreams” will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 23rd November in Europe and 1st December in USA (via MVD). The album will be available in two editions: as a standard jewel case CD and as a digipak with bonus tracks. More details to follow soon!

PORCUPINE TREE will be gracing American shores with their progressive presence this month!
The band’s Roadrunner US Debut “The Incident” is out on September 22, 2009.

It’s an epic, sprawling, lush masterwork of sounds – but don’t take my word for it. If you want to check it, get in touch!

The Incident is a stunning 55-minute musical statement, described by vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Steven Wilson as “a slightly surreal song cycle about beginnings and endings and the sense that ‘after this, things will never be the same again.’” The seeds of the idea that led to The Incident came to Wilson as he became caught up in a highway traffic jam while driving past an accident. “There was a sign saying ‘POLICE – INCIDENT’ and everyone was slowing down to rubber neck to see what had happened,” he recalls. “Afterwards, it struck me that ‘incident’ is a very detached word for something so destructive and traumatic for the people involved. And then I had the sensation that the spirit of someone that had died in the accident entered into my car and was sitting next to me. The irony of such a cold expression for such seismic events appealed to me, and I began to pick out other ‘incidents’ reported in the media and news,” continues Wilson. “I wrote about the evacuation of teenage girls from a religious cult in Texas, a family terrorizing its neighbors, a body found floating in a river by some people on a fishing trip, and more. Each song is written in the first person and tries to humanize the detached media reportage.”

Ohio-based keyboardist and composer Char-El has self-released his new CD, “Resurrection.” After nine years, the multi-keyboard master has followed his acclaimed “Heaven & Earth” with more progressive space rock and synth meditations.

This is 79 minutes of instrumental music filled with analog and digital keyboards, samplers and drum programming by Char-El, aka Charles L. Thaxton, who has over 30 years of playing progressive music solo and with Galileo, Voyager and Magik Dayze. As usual for him, we’re talking real Mellotron and Minimoog, various Korg’s, Emu’s, Roland’s and Kawai’s.

Two tracks feature real drums by Doug Bonnell and four tracks feature acoustic and electric guitars added by Bob Baratta, who’s emotional playing and guitar tone are very reminiscent of Mike Oldfield on “Renewal” and Steve Hackett on “The Truth Will Set You Free.”

Otherwise, it’s all multi-layered synths, pianos and ‘trons, sometimes celestial, soothing, tranquil and relaxing, other times with expansive choirs and rocking arrangements. With 19 tracks ranging from three to six minutes each, the songs are kept concise and don’t extend into pretentious land.

Definitely for fans of Vangelis, Kitaro, David Arkenstone, Klaus Schulze and Gandalf.

The celebrated psychedelic rock band, GONG, have today announced the world premiere of their brand new Japanese animated video “How To Stay Alive,” taken from their highly anticipated forthcoming new studio album “2032” (released 21st September).

Go here to watch the new promo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&v=Pw8ZESzpL3M

The video is a wonderful manga animation of Daevid Allen’s drawings undertaken by the cutting edge Japanese Tokyo-based animation team “Mood Magic”, who were responsible for System 7’s “Hinotori” video (2008). In line with the “2032” album, the video pushes all the classic Gong buttons and mixes them with bang up to date sounds and video techniques.

The track features a rap by Daevid Allen based around the characters of the illustrious Planet Gong mythology, which lent itself well to an animation of the drawings – and also features a beautiful solo at the end by original Gong member Didier Malherbe on the sax-like Armenian instrument the duduk.

Gong embarks on a nationwide UK tour at the Bristol 02 Academy on 19th November, with the Steve Hillage Band confirmed as support act on all UK dates.

RoSfest is pleased to announce Manning this eight piece band led by maestro Guy Manning will be playing the second slot on Saturday May 1st. The band Manning has been around since 1999, formed around the prodigiously talented singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Guy Manning. Having previously been an associate of prog legends Parallel or 90 Degrees and being a founder member of the internationally respected, The Tangent, Guy has an impressive record of releasing ten studio albums in ten years! Manning produce an eclectic mix of music which broadly falls within the “progressive” genre, but in reality spans many different musical forms from beautiful ballads and folk-tinged songs through to awesome all-out rock workouts and true progressive epics - no two songs sound the same! The band is currently experiencing a surge of interest and support, with the previous album “Songs From The Bilston House” having been nominated for Album of the Year by the Classic Rock Society (CRS) and a series of storming headline gigs in support of the latest and critically acclaimed album “Number Ten”.

Highlights of the band’s tenth anniversary year will be an appearance at the 2009 Cambridge Rock Festival and the planned recording of a live album later in the year.

Other members of Manning are Dave Million (lead guitars), Phil Wilkes (keyboards), Kris Hudson-Lee (bass), Dave Albone (drums and percussion), Kevin Currie (rhythm guitars and backing vocals), Julie King (additional keyboards, percussion and backing vocals) and Steve Dundon (flute and other blowable things)- producing a wonderfully full symphonic sound on stage.

For a complete bio of the band head over to the RoSfest website and check out the Manning web page at http://rosfest.com/Performers-2010/Manning.htm There are two MP3’s posted on the same page near the bottom featuring Understudy - Songs From The Bilston House - 2007 & - Ships from Number Ten - 2008.
