Shadowland boxed set details

2009-07-06

As previously announced, to coincidence with Shadowland’s first ever DVD “Edge of Night”, Metal Mind Productions will release “Cautionary Tales”, a box featuring the DVD as well as re-mastered re-releases of their three studio albums (unavailable for a very long time).

Shadowland is a British neo-progressive rock band formed in the 1990s, by Clive Nolan (Arena, Pendragon, Caamora) and Karl Groom (Threshold). The band’s music tends towards the ‘songy’ side of progressive rock, while retaining its melodic and emotional intensity. The band recorded three albums so far: “Ring of Roses” (1992), “Through the Looking Glass” (1994) and “Mad as a Hatter” (1996). Sadly, due to the onset of other commitments, Shadowland took a lengthy break from recording and performing between 1996 and 2008. Late in 2008 Nolan announced that Shadowland would be reforming for a tour in early 2009. Mark Westwood (Caamora, Neo) replaced Ian Salmon on the bass in this 2009 incarnation, but the rest of the original line-up from the 90’s remained unchanged. The tour promoted a “best of” album entitled “A Matter of Perspective”, featuring the band’s favorite tracks from their three previous albums as well as some new material. During the tour, Shadowland also visited Poland. They played at the famous Wyspiański Theatre during the first edition of the progressive rock festival ProgRock 2009. The band’s performance was recorded and will be released on DVD entitled “Edge of Night” (out on 3rd August).

Esoteric Records obtains Manticore catalog

2009-07-01

Cherry Red Records and their imprint Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the exclusive licensing acquisition of the entire MANTICORE RECORDS catalogue. This legendary imprint was established by EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and their management in 1973 to handle not only future albums by ELP, but also to actively sign and promote music by artists admired by the band. In the three years of the label’s active existence the Manticore imprint released four albums by Italian Progressive Rock maestros PFM, two albums by singer songwriter KEITH CHRISTMAS, two by heavy rockers STRAY DOG, US group THEE IMAGE, and individual albums King Crimson and ELP lyricist PETE SINFIELD, HANSON and the Italian band BANCO. The licensing arrangement sees all of Manticore’s non-ELP related material handled by Cherry Red’s imprint Esoteric Recordings. Esoteric label manager Mark Powell commented; “It is a very special thing to be given the opportunity to reissue and remaster these wonderful albums from the original master tapes and to resurrect the legendary Manticore imprint under the Cherry Red umbrella. For many fans of Progressive Rock, the Manticore catalogue is legendary. With access to the Manticore tape vaults we will also be looking at adding previously unreleased bonus material to our reissues”.

The Manticore series of releases will begin in November 2009 with the release of a deluxe various artists compilation which details the history of the Manticore label and will include tracks by EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, GREG LAKE & KEITH EMERSON, along with selections from the catalogue by PFM, KEITH CHRISTMAS, STRAY DOG, THEE IMAGE, PETE SINFIELD, HANSON and BANCO. Also gaining a newly remastered release in November is the album “STILL” by PETE SINFIELD, which features contributions from GREG LAKE, JOHN WETTON, IAN WALLIS and MEL COLLINS. The remainder of the Manticore catalogue will appear throughout 2010. Further announcements will follow.

New Landmarq live album coming

Metal Mind Productions presents the third live album by Landmarq - one of the leading bands on the British neo-progressive scene! The album entitled “Turbulence – Live in Poland” features a recording of the band’s superb performance at the Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland in November 2005 taken from the Landmarq DVD of the same title. Majestic guitars and keyboards, sophisticated compositions and Tracy Hitchings’ beautiful voice – it’s all there!

This British neo progressive band was formed in London in 1990. Initially signing to a Dutch record company (SI Records) then forming their own label, Synergy Records, the band have firmly established themselves within the world of progressive rock, though their appeal extends beyond these boundaries to a more mainstream audience. Fronted by the excellent voice of award-winning vocalist Tracy Hitchings, Landmarq have played concerts in the UK, Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the USA and Mexico; both as support and as headliners at various rock festivals. At some of these concerts the band worked with many well-known artists, including Marillion, John Wetton (ex-Asia, Roxy Music, etc.), Steve Hackett (ex-Genesis), Hugh McDowell (ELO), Nik Turner (Hawkwind), Annie Haslam (Renaissance), IQ, Arena and even Suzi Quatro plus many others.

Apart from making in-roads into Europe and America, Landmarq have also been invited to play in Scandinavia and South America. The band have reached further territories worldwide, as far afield as Russia, eastern Europe, the Far East, and Australia through various magazine/webzine articles, interviews and radio air-play, plus a number of compilation CDs released by various music magazines from around the world.

Landmarq’s next studio album is close to completion and the band look forward to its release as well as to playing a series of gigs in support of the new studio release. One significant landmark(!) for Landmarq will be in 2010 when the band will celebrate it’s 20th anniversary.

New DeeExpus video track

“Far From Home”, the first DVD from British prog rock band DeeExpus, is finally set for release this coming Monday, 6th July. For an early sneak preview of the DVD, we have uploaded the track “Greed” - on Metal Mind Productions’ channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=MetalMindPoland.

Andy Ditchfield: “Greed was written specifically as the opening track for Half Way Home and it seemed fitting that we should play it to open our third ever live performance and the second night of Prog-Rock 2009. The song is a particular band favourite and we hope you enjoy the taster.”

DeeExpus - this talented band from UK has so far released only one studio album entitled “Half Way Home” but with their superb performance at the first edition of Prog Rock Festival at the Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland, they proved that they do have much to say on the prog rock scene. DeeExpus’s music constitutes a modern approach to the genre, more rock-oriented and catchy, yet formed with undeniable finesse and attention to sound and musical nuances. Currently, DeeExpus is writing and recording the follow up to their debut album. The band has also recently undergone a lineup change with the position of the drummer now being filled by the very talented Henry Rogers, also known from the band “Final Conflict”.

British fans of DeeExpus have a chance to see the band live soon as they have just recently confirmed the following dates:

Sat 8th August Cambridge Rock Festival, Barton, Cambridge, South
Sat 26th September CRS - The Wesley Centre, Maltby, Rotherham
Sun 27th September CRS - Riga Music Bar, Westcliff-On-Sea, Essex
Sat 3rd October The Orange Box, Yeovil, Somerset

US fans have to wait till 2010 when DeeExpus play a show at ROSfest: Sun 2nd May, Glenside, PA, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
