Manning Announced For RoSfest 2010

RoSfest is pleased to announce Manning this eight piece band led by maestro Guy Manning will be playing the second slot on Saturday May 1st. The band Manning has been around since 1999, formed around the prodigiously talented singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Guy Manning. Having previously been an associate of prog legends Parallel or 90 Degrees and being a founder member of the internationally respected, The Tangent, Guy has an impressive record of releasing ten studio albums in ten years! Manning produce an eclectic mix of music which broadly falls within the “progressive” genre, but in reality spans many different musical forms from beautiful ballads and folk-tinged songs through to awesome all-out rock workouts and true progressive epics - no two songs sound the same! The band is currently experiencing a surge of interest and support, with the previous album “Songs From The Bilston House” having been nominated for Album of the Year by the Classic Rock Society (CRS) and a series of storming headline gigs in support of the latest and critically acclaimed album “Number Ten”.

Highlights of the band’s tenth anniversary year will be an appearance at the 2009 Cambridge Rock Festival and the planned recording of a live album later in the year.

Other members of Manning are Dave Million (lead guitars), Phil Wilkes (keyboards), Kris Hudson-Lee (bass), Dave Albone (drums and percussion), Kevin Currie (rhythm guitars and backing vocals), Julie King (additional keyboards, percussion and backing vocals) and Steve Dundon (flute and other blowable things)- producing a wonderfully full symphonic sound on stage.

Shadowland DVD details

2009-07-30

“Edge Of Night”, a DVD of British neo-progressive rock band Shadowland, will finally be available on 10th August in Europe and 11th August in USA. The DVD features an exquisite feast of superb musicianship brought to you by Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Caamora, Arena, Neo), Mike Varty (Landmarq, Credo, Jannison Edge, and Mick Pointer’s project Script for a Jester’s Tour), Karl Groom (a well-known music producer on the prog rock scene and a member of Threshold and Strangers on a Train), Mark Westwood (Caamora, Neo), and Nick Harradence (NW10). It includes almost 2 hours of footage, presenting songs from Shadowland’s classic albums performed by the elite of the scene!

Today you can have a look at a sneak preview of the DVD on Metal Mind Productions’ channel on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=MetalMindPoland. You can watch there two tracks taken from the DVD: “A Matter of Perspective” and “The Hunger”.

Shadowland - This British neo-progressive rock band was formed in the 90’s by Clive Nolan and Karl Groom. The band’s music tends towards the ‘songy’ side of progressive rock while retaining its melodic and emotional intensity. They have developed a style that is both complex and easy listening. The band have recorded three albums so far: “Ring of Roses” (1992), “Through the Looking Glass” (1994) and “Mad as a Hatter” (1996). Sadly, due to the onset of other commitments, Shadowland took a lengthy break from recording and performing between 1996 and 2008. Late in 2008 Nolan announced that Shadowland would be reforming for a tour in early 2009. In mid February they played at the famous Wyspia_ski Theatre during the first edition of the progressive rock festival ProgRock 2009. The band’s performance was recorded and now will be released on their first DVD.

Clive Nolan says: “It was great to go back out on tour with Shadowland after a 13 year break. It felt very comfortable playing those old songs again, and exciting to have a bit of new material as well. Playing the Concert at the Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice was a great opportunity to film the band, and the audience made the evening a very special experience. Playing with Shadowland again brought back some great feelings for us in the band, so we’ll be out on tour again early next year… ready to promote our new DVD and Boxset!”

“Edge Of Night” DVD also features an interview with Clive Nolan and Karl Groom, bonus live footage “Shadowland Live in Holland 2009”, photo gallery, desktop images, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and more!

New Knight Area disc details

NEW ALBUM KNIGHT AREA - “REALM OF SHADOWS”

Realm Of Shadows is the third studio album from the Dutch masters of symphonic rock. KNIGHT AREA creates harder edged progressive rock in the vein of ARENA, MARILLION, and DREAM THEATER. This latest effort is a conceptual work about a metaphysical journey that finds their music and themes taking a decidedly darker turn. Worldwide release: September 26th.

NEARfest
KNIGHT AREA was founded in 2004 by the brothers GERBEN and JOOP KLAZINGA who recorded the first album “The Sun Also Rises.” This album was a
project of Gerben and Joop with many musicians participating in the recordings of the album. It was a worldwide success and as a consequence Gerben formed
a band to play live. Their second album, “Under A New Sign,” was released in 2007 after the band successfully played European and American stages
including a performance at NEARfest 2005. The album was a real band effort receiving superb reviews worldwide. A subsequent tour found the band performing in the
UK, Germany and Canada. The band will support the release of “Realm Of Shadows” with a European tour including appearances at PROGPOWER EUROPE in The Nethertlands, PROCKFEST in Germany, The CLASSIC ROCK and THE SOCIETY OCTOBERFEST in England and a double concert with RIVERSIDE in Germany.

Grammy
KNIGHT AREA uses a full sonic palette that will stir the soul of any old or new school symphonic rock fan. Mellotrons, Hammond organ, fluid lead synth and soaring guitar solos - it’s all here! Dramatic vocals and a dynamic mix propel the music. Grammy winning mastering engineer BOB KATZ gave the music an expansive and epic feel. Release date: September 26th 2009. New Random Touch album details

Iconoclasts Random Touch Find “A Way From the Heard” With New CD Release

7/28/2009 - Algonquin, IL - Random Touch’s Scott Hamill (guitars), James Day (keyboards) and Christopher Brown (drums/vocals) first collaborated in the 1970’s. Pure improvisation was one among many sound experiments. Over time it became the preferred mode for music making.

With the music of A Way From the Heard (Token Boy Records, 2009) Random Touch has arrived at a new level of expression. Rock and symphonic music are more fully merged on much of the album, and their long developed technique of abandon is exercised with deft maturity. The result is an unbridled expression of sound as emotion. The colors are more vivid, the gestures wider; very little remains in the shadows. The music seems to sense that it’s tim e has ripened.

The trio came of age musically when Mozart’s legendary improvisations were all but forgotten and when only jazz musicians and a handful of rock bands played with improvisation. Those that did so operated within the strict confines of a song. The trio’s bliss, however, lay in the direction of pure improvisation. Over time they have come to rely on the tools of abandon and serendipity to activate their vision. The ripened fruit of their creative energies is the CD A Way From the Heard, their twelfth release.

“Think of how string theory has posited as many as 11 dimensions; I have no doubt that one or more of these “extra” dimensions comes into play with the music of Random Touch. We experience abundance and freedom precisely because of our access to these extra dimensions.” - Christopher Brown, drums

“Autonomous music-making…Freeform by definition…Yet our performances seek just one goal: That of producing music that reaches in to your most internal thoughts and stimulates your sense of wonder. As a group our music is individualistic, self-supporting, uncontrolled and detached. It is music delivered with a peculiar and distinct sound, as if assembled with the power of a strong nuclear force.” - James Day, keyboards &nb sp;

A Way From the Heard will be available beginning July 31, 2009 at CDBaby.com and randomtouch.com.

Eddie Jobson tour dates announced

EDDIE JOBSON’S U-Z PROJECT

‘ULTIMATE ZERO TOUR’

PROG-ROCK KEYBOARD/VIOLIN LEGEND RETURNS FROM 27-YEAR RETIREMENT TO INTRODUCE

VIRTUOSO SUPERGROUP OF WORLD-RENOWNED PLAYERS ON FIRST EVER ‘SOLO’ TOUR
Brief Series of Exclusive East Coast and Midwest Summer Dates Kicks Off Aug. 17 in Washington

“The word ‘genius’ is bandied about a bit too freely these days, but in Jobson’s case, the term not only applies, it’s been used to describe him since his northern England childhood.” – EMMY Magazine

Watch the new video for UKZ’s RADIATION here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFlnG3AKOW8

Progressive-rock keyboard and electric violin legend EDDIE JOBSON (U.K., Roxy Music, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull) will perform his first ever “solo” concerts in August with one of the most impressive ‘player’ lineups to ever grace the concert stage.

EDDIE JOBSON’S U-Z PROJECT will be performing a brief series of exclusive East Coast and Midwest summer dates on the “Ultimate Zero Tour”: Washington DC (August 17 - Jammin’ Java); New York (August 18 - B.B. Kings); Boston (August 19 - Regent Theatre); Philadelphia (August 20 - North Star); Cleveland (August 21 - Beachland Ballroom); and Chicago (August 22 - Martyrs’).

A live concert appearance by iconic musician Eddie Jobson is a rare event. As keyboardist, electric violinist, co-founder, producer, and principal writer of ‘UK’ [a group he formed with drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, Genesis, King Crimson), singer/bassist John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia), and then-unknown guitar phenom Allan Holdsworth], Jobson’s studio and live concert performances were described as “stunning” and “dazzling.’ The Boston Globe has called him “a music pioneer,” Emmy magazine called him “a genius.”

Eddie was previously well known as the teenage ‘rock prodigy’ with the early Roxy Music, and as Frank Zappa’s right-hand-man on both keyboards and electric violin - replacing both Jean Luc Ponty and George Duke at the age of 21. After appearing on some 60 albums with many of the rock/fusion genre’s top musicians, Mr. Jobson retired from both studio and live performance for more than 20 years until a recent unannounced appearance in Russia with King Crimson.

Now, Eddie has formed two new projects based on his original ‘UK’ concept: ‘UKZ’ - a five-piece contemporary rock band, currently receiving rave reviews for their “Radiation” EP and recent concert tour of Japan; and the newly-announced ‘U-Z Project’ - an instrumental band of extraordinary virtuosos from around the world, including Michael Jackson’s former guitarist Greg Howe; stick player Michael Bernier (Stick Men); and TWO world renowned drummers, German drumming sensation Marco Minnemann (UKZ), and British drum legend Simon Phillips (Peter Gabriel, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, Toto).

Critics raved after witnessing UKZ’s “One City World Tour” debut concert in New York last January. Calling it “an auspicious beginning indeed, Daily Variety said “Jobson’s crew proved to be well stocked in both the brawn and brain departments.” JazzTimes marveled at how this “chops-heavy” band “delivered the goods” with “blistering licks and well-orchestrated bombast.” Added TimeOut New York: “UKZ fuses technical flamboyance with the postindustrial crunch of Nine Inch Nails and Tool.”

Given Jobson’s international reputation as a musicians’ musician, and the high caliber of his previous associations and collaborations (a list that includes Frank Zappa, Ian Anderson, Robert Fripp, Phil Collins, John Entwistle, Tony Levin, Bill Bruford, Terry Bozzio, Steve Hackett, Trey Gunn, Jon Anderson, Allan Holdsworth, Adrian Belew, and many others) it is not surprising that the upcoming U.S. tour would include such an impressive lineup of players.

Spotlighting Jobson’s trademark Plexiglas electric violins, the ‘U-Z Project’ will perform rarely played music from ‘UK’ and other material culled from the best of the genres Jobson has helped create. More at www.ukzband.com and www.eddiejobson.com.

Epica: new album update, U.S. tour dates announced

Mark Jansen, guitarist & songwriter for Holland’s symphonic metal band EPICA, checks in with a new album update plus a headlining North American 2010 tour announcement:

“It’s been a great time at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg [Germany] recording Design Your Universe. We worked with the same team [producer Sascha Paeth] and we worked for the first time together with our new guitar player Isaac Delahaye [formerly of God Dethroned]. This made a difference and made things very refreshing because we could add some new elements because of him. We have worked harder than ever on the details. We preferred to spend some extra money on great additions which brings our songs to a higher level instead of leaving things like they are. The result is that we worked so hard on this album that we hardly can listen to the album anymore. Now it’s time to let it go and release it to humanity. We were already very happy with The Divine Conspiracy but I’m sure this new album tops that one.

“The album title, Design Your Universe, deals with new breakthroughs in quantum physics. It proves that we are all connected to each other on subatomic level. Also, it shows that we can create or at least influence matter with our thoughts… a very interesting fact. Because it changes everything for us, our whole worldview collapses once you accept these facts and integrate them in your lives. So this had to become the new album title.

“We’ll be headlining a North American tour in 2010 featuring Daath and Blackguard. I can’t wait for this tour as it’s a strong package!”

About the band’s new material, EPICA singer Simone Simons has previously stated, “It is so exciting! I love the new songs and can’t wait to play them live.”

Steve Vai live release set for September

2009-07-17

Legendary Guitarist STEVE VAI

Set To Release Live Concert

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

DVD, Blu-ray and Live CD

ON FAVORED NATIONS SEPTEMBER 29TH, 2009

HOLLYWOOD, CA (July 16, 2009) – Guitar legend Steve Vai will release his concert film and live CD Where The Wild Things Are September 29th, 2009 on Favored Nations Records. The show was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vai’s successful Sound Theories world tour.

Visit http://favorednations.com/wtwta-preview to view the concert trailer.

Where The Wild Things Are is Vai’s 21st solo project contributing to his 20,000,000 unit worldwide sales that have accumulated over his 30 year career. Vai chose the State Theatre to film because of its large, lush acoustics and the historical theatre’s gorgeous interior.

Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in Where The Wild Things Are.

The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. His guitar-wielding extravaganza in “The Murder” is an artistic performance piece that must be seen to be believed.

The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vai’s compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vai’s band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).

“When I put a band and a show together I try to create an entertainment experience that I would like to have if I was sitting in the audience,” explains Vai. “I like to witness great musicianship but nothing too cerebral or overindulgent, I like to be stimulated by a large dynamic range of emotional intensities and melodic richness, I enjoy when people love their instrument and it shows by their oneness with it, I like to feel as though I’m part of a family with the audience and the band, and I like to walk away feeling uplifted and not beat up by somebody’s ego or the things they hate about themselves and the world. And of course I want a cool t-shirt.”
