Believe: details on upcoming new album

The premiere of the new album by the progressive rock band Believe is just around the corner. The band’s third full-length album entitled “This Bread Is Mine” will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 31st August in Europe and 6th October in USA (via MVD).
Just to give you a foretaste of the new material, the band posted on their official Myspace site a full version of the title track – “This Bread Is Mine”: www.myspace.com/believeartrock

Mirek Gil: “The guitar riff is the quintessence of this track. I think I do not have to add how important the riff was in the history of rock music. You know – Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and so on… It was the riff that showed the direction for the track “This Bread Is Mine”. I think it is a key element of this song.”

Believe promotes the new album “This Bread Is Mine” with the title track and the choice was not accidental. As the band says this track not only best represents the content of the album but it also emphasizes the possible breaking point in the band’s musical career.

Karol Wróblewski: “I do hope this track will let you feel the essence of yourself and will let you see all the elements that are shaping you. Just like I discovered them for myself co-writing this song. You need to discover yourself if these are bad or good elements”.

Believe’s current line-up:

Karol Wróblewski - vokal
Mirek Gil – guitars (ex-Collage, ex-Satellite)
Przemas Zawadzki – bass guitar (ex-Collage, ex-Satellite)
Satomi - violin
Vlodi Tafel – drums (ex-Mr.Gil)

Guest musician:
Paulina Druch (cello)

“This Bread Is Mine” will be available in two versions. The standard edition will feature 11 tracks. A bonus track will be added to the digipak edition.

Oceans Of Night debut album released

Ambient progressive metal band, Oceans of Night, release their debut CD, The Shadowheart Mirror, available immediately via www.oceansofnight.com

Oceans of Night is a heavy rock/metal band that synthesizes a diverse range of musical influences under the deceptively descriptive title of “ambient progressive rock”. As the enigmatic and mysterious name suggests, Oceans of Night forge a powerful, modern and dynamic musical experience that demands your undivided attention.

Consisting of musical mastermind Scott Mosher and vocal powerhouse Scott Oliva, the debut Oceans of Night CD, The Shadowheart Mirror, was released in June of 2009. Equal parts progressive metal and modern rock served with a distinct ambient flavor, The Shadowheart Mirror is a dark, haunting and cinematic musical statement that resonates with emotional impact.

Through the course of 4 CD’s, multi-instrumentalist Scott Mosher has bridged the worlds of progressive metal, melodic hard rock and ambient music to create an experimental yet complimentary style of ambient metal that is at once as subtle as it is powerful, aggressive as it is dynamic and timeless as it is modern. Scott Oliva continues to perform in the legendary NY Iron Maiden tribute band, Live After Death and has played with Wind Wraith, Inner Strength, Last Vision Black and Driven. The Scott’s have previously worked together on Mr. Mosher’s 4th CD release, Deep Horizon, in 2006.

Syzygy announces new album release

Syzygy CD Release “Realms of Eternity”

Syzygy just released their long awaited, and one of their most ambitious works to date, Realms of Eternity. The heartfelt and spiritually-themed Realms of Eternity deals with various aspects of the afterlife and mines emotionally rich terrain. The band most ably handled all vocals on previous releases but felt their latest required some added depth. Despite an exhaustive search they came up empty handed until Dena Henry - Artist Representative, suggested they audition seasoned session vet Mark Boals (Ted Nugent, Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Erik Norlander, et al).

Syzygy plans on having a CD release concert on Saturday August 1st at The Beachland Ballroom located in Cleveland, Ohio. Also appearing on August 1st will be Black Key Projekt and Gravity. Syzygy’s live performances will culminate with a special showcase appearance at Three Rivers Progressive Rock Festival (www.3rprogfest.com ) in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania (just outside Pittsburgh) on Sunday August 9th, 2009.

Paul Kopecky passes away

Statement from Joe and William Kopecky on the passing of brother Paul:

Paul Kopecky (1971-2009)

We are deeply saddened to announce that our brother Paul James
Kopecky passed away on June 22, 2009 due to complications related to juvenile
diabetes. He was only 37 years old.

For the past two years KOPECKY was unable to play because of Paul’s
deteriorating health. We hoped beyond hope to play together again,
but unfortunately it was not to be.

Paul was an exceptional drummer whose unique style shaped and helped
define the KOPECKY sound. His drumming was powerful but precise,
innovative but instinctive, and always, always tasteful. He played
selflessly, crafting his parts to suit the song, not his ego. We were
always suprised by his phenomenal talent, and we often marveled
at how he could, with a minimum of practice, play extremely
complicated tracks in just one or two takes in the recording studio.
And in concert, Paul was solid as bedrock and played his
absolute best despite being frequently ill on stage.

His excellent drumming can be heard on all five KOPECKY CD’s: Kopecky
(Mellow, 1999), Serpentine Kaleidoscope (Cyclops, 2000), Orion
(M.A.C.E., 2001), Sunset Gun (Musea, 2003), and Blood (Unicorn
Digital, 2006).

The world of progressive rock has lost an amazing drummer, and
this planet has lost one of the kindest, most warm-hearted souls that
ever walked the earth. He will surely be missed by many.

Thanks to all friends and fans who have offered their condolences.
Your kind words are deeply appreciated.

With love and respect,
Joe and William Kopecky

p.s. Please feel free to forward this to anyone in the prog community
who may be interested. Thank you.

ProgDay Festival adds Brave to lineup

2009-06-25

ProgDay 2009 will get off to a rousing start as the outstanding melodic progressive metal band BRAVE take the stage. Celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, their performances with bands like FATES WARNING, ASIA, LACUNA COIL, SPOCK’S BEARD, OPETH and SYMPHONY X have earned them a reputation for atmospheric, powerful and soulful music. With the heartfelt, passionate vocals of MICHELLE LOOSE, lyrical metal guitars, and a violin that is sometimes songbird-like and other times symphonic, they have created a unique, rich sound that sets them apart from the expected.

“The first thing to hit you is the melancholy voice of lead singer Michelle Loose, with a delivery that makes me think of the old group Renaissance fronted by the multi-octave vocals of Annie Haslam. Now take those vocals, put in a duel heavy metal guitar attack and then to top it off, add a violin similar to the group Kansas. There you have Brave…This band is really Beauty and the Beast. With the gorgeous vocals of Michelle Loose swirling all around you, the beast of a band behind her, hits you like a ton of bricks. The combination is something to behold.” - Scott Ward, SEA OF TRANQUILITY

ProgDay is the world’s longest running progressive rock event. The 15th edition will take place on September 5th & 6th, 2009, at beautiful Storybook Farm near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. BRAVE (US) join LA MASCHERA DI CERA (Italy), OZRIC TENTACLES (UK), MÖRGLBL (France), QUI (Japan), FRENCH TV (USA), 3RDEGREE (USA) and DELUGE GRANDER (USA) for another great weekend of the best in progressive music! For more information and to hear music from all of this year’s ProgDay bands, please visit us at www.progday. net.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ProgDay has changed it’s domain name. We are now “Progday.net” instead of “.com.” If you are one of ProgDay’s supporters, please be sure to make the change to “.net” in all of your links and bookmarks.

“…Contemporary touchstones are Type O Negative and Mastodon’s artier moments. Floyd devotees set the controls for arty grunge. …Although obviously conversant in UK 70’s prog, Portland’s William Weikart also knows his way round a doomy riff and a grunge melody. …When they stick to the more straight forward heavy psychedelia however, the results are exceptional and impressive.”
- Classic Rock Magazine London April 2009

“Tough, fervid and intense, at various times over the course of Psycheclectic they resemble a more inspired Soundgarden with a bigger paintbox. …It’s surprising and instructive to discover how well their brawny, muscular, scruff-of-the-neck acid rock offsets and complements… It’s an aural entente between UK and US psych templates, no less…” - Shindig! Magazine London

“An ambitious prog-rock album where surface-sutured layers of trippy textures and trances melt into ominous simmering swatches of deep-seated psychotronic sensations before slowly coalescing together again.” - Creem Magazine

“There is so much going on within this album that it takes many plays to fully explore the multi layers and sometimes disguised dimensions it contains. The production…is first class. …Both psychedelic and eclectic drawing from not only Floyd influences but releasing those energies and letting them go on their own journey…not only rewarding but is also fascinating and compelling. It is a brave move… “Cast Close the Gate” which opens with strident guitar work before developing into an extraordinarily accomplished track underpinned by some clever and effective drumming. “Love’s Love” appears with a wonderfully rich opening section and highly evocative lyrics.”
- Jeff Perkins Blog Critics Magazine - Seattle Examiner Online

“…The album takes great inspiration from Pink Floyd, but really stands with its own persona. …Obscured By Clouds takes what they heard and learned from Pink Floyd and adapted it to their own play. And the thing is, these kids rock. Using “psycheclectic” as a portmanteau of “psychedelic” and “eclectic” very much describes the album itself. …Different songs (would) be described as everything from classic rock to feedback experimentation to folk to perhaps even Celtic in its epic descriptions of landscape and emotional impact. “Soft Cheeked and Worried,” …flows from stark acoustic guitar emulating the barren desert with splashes of piano and moves to electric guitar playing just on the edge of feedback. “Zoë Zolofft” works as an homage to Syd Barrett in a “song about a girl, a sitar, and modern pharmakinetics”, creating the “sonic imagery of the splintered spokes of a broken and wobbling wheel.” “Love’s Love” calls up images of love personified “with a Floydishly acoustic accompaniment.”
- Jeff Provine Blog Critics Magazine - Seattle Examiner Online
