Neal Morse gives details on upcoming Transatlantic album

Neal Morse offered some details today via interview on the upcoming Transatlantic album, the band’s first in seven years. The full story will appear in Progression No. 57 (June). Here are a few tidbits:

* The album will be out on InsideOut/SPV before the end of the year.
* There likely will be a deluxe edition including DVD “making of” documentary footage.
* The album was recorded over two weeks earlier this month at Morse’s home studio; the band had been exchanging ideas long-distance since January.
* Morse said he got the notion of working with Transatlantic again about a year and a half ago, and that the 3RP three-fourths reunion gig was not the impetus, “although it was great seeing the guys again.”

Much more to come later.

Drummer Paul Cook returns to IQ

IQ guitarist Mike Holmes today told Progression that Paul Cook has returned to play drums, replacing Andy Edwards. (Edwards’ girlfriend is expecting and he’s taking a year off, although Cook may stay on permanently — yet to be decided.)

Full details on this and other band matters — including somewhat surprising reflections by Holmes on Martin Orford’s departure — in the next issue of Progression issue No. 57, publishing in June. (The interview also will include vocalist Peter Nicholls.)

LES CLAYPOOL Starts Summer Escapade

OF FUNGI AND FOE releasing on Vinyl on May 12th

HOLLYWOOD, CA (April 20, 2009) - Les Claypool will take over the northern hemisphere on his summer tour starting May 26th in Charlotte, NC. This is the 2nd leg of his year-long tour in support of his critically acclaimed latest masterpiece OF FUNGI AND FOE out now on Prawn Song Records.

Special collectors’ addition of “OF FUNGI AND FOE” will come out on vinyl May 12th. This is a MUST HAVE for all Les Claypool fans. This is a limited run so go to www.clubbastardo.com and get your copy~

OF FUNGI AND FOE is the expansion of material Claypool has recorded over the past few years for the video game “Mushroom Men” and the motion picture “Pig Hunt”. Being inspired by these 2 projects Claypool decided to keep creating and turn it into an album. The song Mushroom Men on this release is a more in depth version of the theme song from the video game. Additionally a jam session with Gogol Bordello’s charismatic front-man Eugene Hutz turned into the track “Bite Out Of Life”. The band is comprised of Les Claypool on bass/vocals, Paulo Baldi on Drums (Cake), Mike Dillon on Percussion (Ani Difranco), and Sam Bass on Cello (Deadweight).

VANCOUVER JAZZ FEST 2008
FAN REVIEW - 1 OF MANY

“I crawled out of the mountains to see this show after I heard Roy Estrada was going to be there (one of my all time fave bassists) - I didn’t know Don Preston was gonna be there also - it made my heart pump when I saw him walk on stage, I felt like a teenager again - his story about Frank’s friends and dinner consisting of steak and ice-cream, with steak again for desert, was great …

this was a real show for me, one of the top ten in my life - they played for a good three hours, superMEN all the lot of them … Napoleon’s energy - wow - jumping like a crab at the end, I can’t even do that and I’m 15 years younger at least (^%$!!)…

the playing was flawless, amazing guitar by Miroslav Tadic (really amazing) and Chris Garcia … geez I wish I could see them again … UN-BELIEVABLE, they played Frank’s music right // the Vancouver crowd was great too … god bless ROY !! I felt like crying the whole time …
amen”

Tinyfish upcoming DVD — early details

Tinyfish revealed the cover artwork of their “One Night On Fire” DVD. It was designed by Jim Sanders, Tinyfish’s guitarist, who for his day job works as a graphic designer. Jim was also responsible for Tinyfish’s album artwork and designed the logo for Marillion’s fanclub ‘The Web’.

The DVD was recorded during the band’s appearance at the progressive rock festival, Progrock 2009, which took place in Katowice, Poland in mid February. It will feature a selection of the band’s best songs taken from their previous releases as well as of the tracks which will appear on their forthcoming album “The Big Red Spark”. The band is currently working on extra features for the DVD.

Metal Mind Productions will release “One Night On Fire” on 29th June in Europe and 11th August in USA (via MVD). DVD will be available in 3 formats: DVD, limited DVD+CD edition, including bonus audio CD with songs recorded during the gig at the theater, and a limited CD digipak. Full track listening to be confirmed soon.

Report: Art in America ’still writing music’

2009-04-18

Exclusively for Progression from Chris Flynn (a/k/aChris Ruetenik):

Art in America is active only in the sense that we are still writing music. My brother Dan (drums) and sister Shishonee (harp) live in Michigan and Jim and I live in Los Angeles. I would like nothing better than to put the original band back together again, but alas, I have been unable to do so.

The album was re-released and re-mastered last year by Renaissance Records in AZ (distributed by Koch) and is available at Amazon and other sites. It has 7 extra songs from the vaults.

I have many photos of the band either under our Art in America Facebook page, or even more at my personal Facebook page for Chris Ruetenik. Also new music at these sites:

Wishing you a wonderful spring and summer.
