Threshold preparing for European tour

2007-08-27

Threshold are currently making final preparations for their forthcoming European tour starting at the end of August. The tour is being presented by Rock Hard and Eclipsed magazines, and features a strong three band support package featuring Communic, Machine Men and Serenity.

The tour takes in Germany, Holland, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Switzerland and Belgium, with Threshold going on to play further dates in England, Denmark and the US later in the year with the likes of It Bites, Kamelot and After Forever.

Threshold recently experienced the unexpected departure of their singer Mac just days before their first festivals of the year, but fortunately the band’s original vocalist Damian Wilson was able to step in for all this year’s tour dates. Wilson sang on the band’s first and third albums, but apart from a few live UK shows before the release of Wounded Land he has only toured once with the band back in 1997. “Having Damian Wilson back on vocals adds an edge to the shows this time around”, says guitarist and founder member Karl Groom. “Fans who have never had a chance to see him perform with Threshold now have a great opportunity we never thought would happen.”

Damian Wilson is also currently lead singer of Headspace, a British progressive rock band featuring keyboard player Adam Wakeman, son of the legendary Yes keyboard player Rick Wakeman. Fortunately the Threshold tour dates didn’t clash with any Headspace commitments, and after playing two festivals with Threshold in July, Wilson was able to commit to the rest of Threshold’s tour schedule. “Playing the festivals was a lot of fun, even without preparation and it was compelling to be greeted with such a positive response. I guess it’s the same with most singers; give me a stage and I’m happy, give me an audience and I’m thrilled.”

Also new to the band’s touring line-up this year is guitarist Pete Morten, filling in for Nick Midson who decided to take some time off from the band last year. “This is a moment in my life that I am very much looking forward to and I don’t plan on taking it for granted”, says Morten. He also fronts his own band who are currently being produced by Karl Groom. “I see this tour with Threshold as an amazing opportunity to not only play with an amazing band and further my craft as a musician, but see this as a great promotional vehicle for my own band Soliloquy.”

This year’s set list will include a blend of new songs from the Dead Reckoning album alongside older classics including songs from when Damian Wilson was in the band. “We’re doing a few tracks from Wounded Land and Extinct Instinct, but the main focus is to promote the new album.” says keyboard player Richard West. “We ended the last two festivals with This Is Your Life (from Dead Reckoning) and Damian really owned it, he gave it a new flavour and it sounded amazing.”

Threshold’s tour kicks off in Germany on 31 August.

Scott Mosher offers CDs as free downloads

2007-08-21

Hey everybody - here’s the scoop: All songs are now free. That’s right, 4 full-length CD’s worth of music, from the ambient new age rock of AMBIENT EARTH (1996), the neo-progressive cyber rock of VIRTUALITY (2001), the refined progressive pop/rock/metal hybrid INFERNO (2004) through the crushing yet melodic progressive metal of DEEP HORIZON (2006.) Yes, these are full length songs direct from the CD. No, they aren’t remixes, song edits, mono channel backwater dubs or subliminal messages (damn!) Yes, there’s no strings attached, no hidden agenda’s, no ulterior motives. No, there’s no if ands or buts. So what are you waiting for? Consider this an invitation to download to your hearts (and computer hard drive’s) content.

The full length CDs are still available for purchase as well and donations are accepted - just follow the link below for all your audio exploration needs. Thanks for your time, patience and attendance.

MoogFest 2007 schedule set

2007-08-20

B.B. King’s Blues Club in New York City will once again open its doors to Moogfest, the annual festival commemorating and celebrating the groundbreaking achievements of maverick inventor Robert Moog and his namesake synthesizer. Slated for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, the fourth annual Moogfest will once again be a synthesizer fan’s dream.

Already scheduled to perform are renowned keyboardists and long-standing Moog users Thomas Dolby, Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Adam Holzman (Miles Davis), Spiraling, Don Preston (Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention), Gershon Kingsley, Nail, Herb Deutsch and Erik Norlander, among others. In addition to performing, Gershon Kingsley and Herb Deutsch will be receiving the Bob Moog Legacy Award, recognizing their unique, lasting artistry as expressed through Moog instruments.

Although many acts have been signed, the search for the opening performer continues. As was the case for Moogfests in years past, artists and bands have been invited to submit their music for a chance to open the show. Submissions are being accepted through August 27, and the winner will be announced on August 31.

ProgDay 2007 Final Lineup

2007-08-06

The ProgDay organization is sad to announce that due to an issue with work permits / passports for playing in the United States, Nik Turner’s Space Ritual has cancelled their North American tour that was slated to begin at ProgDay 2007. All other U.S. dates are also cancelled. We were informed of the situation a few days ago. Nik also sends his regrets as he and the band were really looking forward to playing in front of U.S. audiences again.

However, ProgDay is pleased to announce our last two additions to the lineup for 2007.

FROGG CAFÉ - Frogg Café is no stranger to fans of progressive rock, especially those on the east coast. The Froggs have been tearing up the northeast progressive rock circuit for several years to rave reviews. The band appeared at NEARfest in 2005 and is featured on the outstanding DVD from that show released earlier this year. The band’s latest release is the two disc live set “The Safenzee Diaries.” Frogg Café began their career as a Frank Zappa tribute band, but have morphed their original material over the years to incorporate melodic progressive rock, fusion, improv, and have even been embraced by the jam band crowd. Frogg Café will perform on Saturday, September 1.

THREE - Fresh off their triumphant US tour with Porcupine Tree, Three encompass an accessible brand of progressive rock that both captivates and challenges the listener. Led by singer / songwriter / guitarist Joey Eppard, Three also feature a relentless twin percussion attack that is sure to rock the farm. The band’s latest album, “The End Has Begun,” was recorded at famed drum virtuoso Jerry Morrota’s studio in New York. The album was released in July on Metalblade records to glowing reviews. Three have also done an extensive U.S. tour with Coheed and Cambria and played countless headline shows over the past few years. Porcupine Tree specifically picked Three to be the opening act on their 2007 tour and after seeing them live it is easy to understand why. Three will perform on Sunday, September 2.

Progday takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2, at Storybook Farm near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Visit the website at http://www.progday.com for more details.

Asia tour postponed due to Wetton health scare

The British rock group, ASIA, announced today that the second leg of its North American tour has been postponed due to a recently discovered heart condition, likely to require surgery, for lead singer John Wetton. Mr. Wetton is expected to make a full recovery and looks forward to returning to his work with ASIA, as well as his other musical endeavours, at the earliest possible time.

The postponed shows, which were in Western Canada and the US West Coast, are expected to be re-scheduled around the 2008 US concert itinerary. John recently had a routine medical which returned a clean bill of health. John’s consultant suggested a comprehensive check up, during which adverse heart readings were discovered, indicating advanced coronary disease. The routine medical check had included conventional procedures from blood pressure to ECG tests, none of which suggested the presence of heart disease.

John now has to undertake an angiogram in the immediate future. This will determine whether the condition can be treated with drugs, or whether immediate open heart surgery is needed.

John is philosophical and confident about the situation and wants it to be known that he will be back on stage as soon as possible. “God didn’t save me from drowning only to beat me up on the beach. I look forward to getting back on tour.”
